Websites Can Help Reach the Community

Many churches use their Web sites to communicate with members about fellowship and upcoming events as well as using this great technology as an outreach tool.

There are several other Internet technologies which can dramatically affect congregational communication in many positive ways. One such way is to expand your Web site. Many churches use their Web sites to communicate with members about fellowship and upcoming events as well as using this great technology as an outreach tool. Our church realized this several years ago when youth group went on a mission trip to South America. Daily, the youth minister sent digital pictures accompanied by e-mails detailing the group's activities, accomplishments, and the struggles the village they were serving faced. Every day these e-mails and pictures were posted on our web site as a way for the parents of the youth to see what their children were accomplishing. We did realize the impact this would have. Through the wonders of technology, we were all introduced to a village hundreds of miles away, to people and children we would have never met had it not been for the Internet. By midweek, our church office was flooded with phone calls from individuals who wanted to help and many of these people did not attend out church. Because of the Internet, we had the parents of the youth, members of our church, and members of the community contacting the church to ask how they could help, and what the village needed. We received so many donations, not only for the mission, but also for the other outreach programs we sponsored.
